Look, I'm not gonna feed you some polished origin story. Back in 2018, I was tired of the whole "gym culture" BS - you know, the mirrors everywhere, folks taking selfies between sets, equipment that looked pretty but couldn't handle real weight.
I'd spent 15 years competing in strongman circuits across Canada and the States. Won some, lost some, broke my collarbone twice and tore my meniscus once. But what really got me thinking was training in these commercial gyms where nobody seemed to actually WANT to get stronger - just look stronger.
So I cashed in everything. Found this old warehouse space in Vancouver's industrial district - the landlord thought I was crazy wanting a place with concrete floors and high ceilings instead of fancy finishes. That's how Frostwyrm was born.
Named it after an old gaming reference from my younger days - yeah, I'm that kind of nerd who benches 400 and plays RPGs. The "Frostwyrm" thing stuck 'cause it represents something powerful, ancient, and honestly pretty intimidating if you're not ready for it.
We started with just bars, plates, and a few platforms. No AC that first summer - just industrial fans and a lot of chalk dust. But the people who showed up? They got it. They weren't here for the amenities. They came to work.
Seven years later, we've trained provincial champions, helped folks go from their couch to their first competition, and built something that feels more like a tribe than a gym. That's what I'm proud of.
